RESOLUTION TO SET WATER METER INSTALLATION AND SERVICE FEES

WHEREAS, the Village of Mendon Water Fund is intended to be self-sustaining; and

WHEREAS, the Village of Mendon has had water meters installed in the residences and businesses; and 

WHEREAS, the Village of Mendon has required the use of water meters for the Water System as a condition of the USDA bonds taken out for water system improvements; and 

WHEREAS, the Village Council has passed Ordinance 167, known as the Water Meter Ordinance, to establish the requirements of the installation, use, maintenance, calibration, and service of the water meters;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Village Council of the Village of Mendon, that the following fees regarding water meters will be established, effective March 1, 2026 for all new and existing connections to the Village Water System:

  1. Section 1: Water Meter Installation 
    1. New Water Connection & Meter(Includes Tap-in to water main, service lead to edge of property, curb stop and box, and water meter provided for the customer to have installed – requires backflow prevention provided by customer)
      1. ⅝” Residential Equivalent Meter – $2,500.00
      2. 1” Commercial Meter – $3,500.00
      3. 2” or larger Commercial Meter – $6,500 plus Market Cost of parts and labor at time of connection
    2. Replacement of damaged/lost Meter (Requires backflow prevention provided by customer)
      1. ⅝”  Residential Equivalent Meter – $350 (Antenna Box  + $250)
      2. 1” Meter – $600.00 (Antenna Box  + $250)
      3. 2” or larger or non-standard sizes – Market Cost of parts and labor at time of connection (Antenna Box  + $250)
      4. Installation – $60 ( + 120% of cost of permits, licensed plumber labor, & parts as required for installing meter horns or other related repairs)
  2. Section 2: Water Meter Calibration and Service 
    1. Calibration requests where meter is not more than 3% out of calibration – $125.00 (When more than 3% out of calibration, the Village will service the unit free of charge)
    2. Service due to damage from the resident – 115% of cost of permits, licensed plumber labor, & parts as required for service/repair/installation
  1. Section 3: Other Services
    1. Any other services required for repair or maintenance of service lines, water meters, etc. – $60/hr for Village DPW labor and/or 115% of any contracted services.
  2. Section 4: Payment
    1. Payment is expected at time of application for new connections and/or meters at the Village Office.
    2. Work that is performed for maintenance, repair, replacement, or other reasons will be billed as part of the water utility bill. Failure to pay for these services within 90 days will result in the balance being assessed to the property as a lien in the form of taxes.
  3. Section 5: Effective Date This Resolution shall be effective March 1, 2026.

ADOPTED this 17th day of February, 2026, by the Village Council of the Village of Mendon.
